ABOUT ME
I grew up in Newark, Delaware and graduated from Alexis I. duPont High School in 1990. In 1992, I received my Associates of Science in Travel and Tourism Management from Brandywine College. Two years later, in 1994, I graduated from Widener University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. I worked in the hospitality industry for several years and went to work for W.L. Gore and Associates and worked in Inside Sales with the Electronic Products Division. While working at W.L. Gore, I decided to go back to school to earn my Masters Degree in Elementary Education. In the winter of 2001, I graduated from Wilmington College with my Masters of Education in Elementary Studies. In the spring of 2001, I moved to Alpharetta, Georgia, to teach second grade in a "Blue Ribbon" elementary school. In 2003, I taught first grade at Creek View Elementary in Fulton County, Georgia. In 2006, I had my first child and have been staying at home home raising my two children. We are have relocated to Austin, Texas from Espoo, Finland.
For me, the teaching profession brings together some of my greatest passions—working with children, inspiring them to be lifelong learners, and serving as a positive role model for others. I have always enjoyed being around young children. I love being able to witness a child’s moment of discovery, and am often fascinated by the creativity, imagination, and wonder that illustrate their young minds. I still feel like a child full of excitement as I watch my own children take off on the first day of school. I look forward to share with students my own excitement for knowledge and inspire them to find the joy in learning. By drawing upon my experiences as a mother, expat, wife, tutor, mentor, babysitter, and teacher, I also hope to empower students to treat others with the same patience, kindness, fairness, and respect.
My greatest passion outside of teaching is leading an active lifestyle, particularly with spending time with my family. I also enjoy digital scrapbooking, blogging, traveling, trying out new restaurants, and watching college football ~ especially the Texas Longhorns!
